There are so many great family days out to enjoy in Suffolk. It's impossible to cover them all, but here are a few of our suggestions.
BAYLHAM RARE BREEDS
Baylham, Ipswich - IP6 8LG/8.1 m
Baylham House is a working livestock farm which caters for both educational and leisure visits. A day out for countryside and animal-lovers of all ages. Outdoor picnic area and riverside walks.
Ipswich, Suffolk - IP1/ 2.7 miles - 6 minutes
Just 3 miles down the road you will find Christchurch Park. This beautiful park has 70-acres of rolling lawns, wooded areas, ponds and play areas and has a rich and fascinating history dating back as far as the 12th Century. A fantastic spot to visit with the family, whatever the weather. Wtihin the park stands Christchurch Mansion which holds a public museum, art gallery and tea room.
On street parking can be found along one of the main entrances (Park Road being the nearest).
WALBERSWICK BEACH Walberswick, Suffolk - IP18/ 34.2 miles
The capital of crabbing (kids love it!), Walberswick has a long sand and shingle beach backed by grassy dunes and surrounded by marsh and heathland. Set on the unspoilt Suffolk coast, the Georgian village of Walberswick is a nostalgic English seaside dream. It’s the perfect place for a bucket and spade day out, followed by a hearty pub lunch or cream tea. Crabbing equipment avaiable in the village to buy.
RENDLESHAM FOREST CENTRE

Rendlesham Forest is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There's something for everyone, including children's play areas, cycle trails, sculptures to discover in Tangham Wood and plenty of places for a picnic.
Walk the UFO trail and discover more about the famous UFO sighting in December 1980.
- National Trust Site - Tranmer House, Woodbridge IP12 3DJ/ 10 miles
Sutton Hoo is the site of two early medieval cemeteries dating from the 6th to 7th centuries near Woodbridge, in Suffolk, England. This hauntingly beautiful 255 acre estate, with far-reaching views over the River Deben, is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. Walk around the Royal Burial Ground and discover the incredible story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king and his treasured possessions.
Recently the site was made even more famous when Netfilx released their film 'The Dig
' which tells the story of how the treasures were discovered.
EASTON FARM PARK
Easton, Woodbridge - IP13 0EQ/11.7m
Built in the late 1800s, Easton Farm Park offers a mix of interactive farm activities within a set of listed historic buildings. Daily activities vary with the seasons (and the weather), but include, where possible, an indoor soft playbarn, outdoor adventure play area, lots of farm animals to meet and feed, pony rides and “hug a bunny”. Beautiful walks to the river Deben. Café serves teas, coffees and simple home-made food.
THE HOLLESLEY BAY COLONY STUD
Woodbridge - IP12 3JR/15.2 m
The Suffolk Punch Trust, dedicated to the preservation of Suffolk’s unique history, operates the world’s oldest stud farm breeding the endangered Suffolk Horse. Visitors are able to see horses and yearlings, rare Large Black Pigs, Red Poll Cattle and Suffolk Sheep. There is also a large vehicle and implement display, a heritage exhibition and cinema as well as a play area, gift shop and coffee shop providing light lunches and afternoon tea.

A working farm, home of the rare breed Essex Pig, open for visitors seven days a week. Nature trail, woodland walk, gardens, farm shop with home-reared pork, lamb and beef, adventure play area and field kitchen.
Colchester, Essex - CO3 0SL/24.5m
Colchester Zoo is now one of the finest Zoos in Europe due to a constant programme of development and has won the coveted Large Visitor Attraction of the Year” Award. With over 260 species to see, set in 60 acres of beautiful parkland and lakes, Colchester Zoo is a great family day out and is well worth a visit!

Claiming to be 623 feet of fun, Southwold Pier is a traditional amusement arcade. Open every day, the Pier offers a choice of places to eat and shop, and the must-see Water Clock. Perfect to tie in with a day at the beach or an amble along the seafront.
